Hey, my friends and I are thinking of getting involved with Humboldt Airsoft League, but have some concerns with the charter posted here.  Is everything about gear (radios, uniforms) and payment (vaguely recall something about that...) actually true? another member, i think he said he was root beer couch told me some time ago that the charter was fairly old and that most of it was outdated.  I was just wondering what the actual guidelines are if they are different.

I am glad to hear that you are thinking about participating in the Humboldt Airsoft League.  We are always happy to find new folks that enjoy playing airsoft as much as we do.  As for the charter... what are your particular concerns?  It's been a while since I read the entire charter, but for the most part I believe it holds true.

Gear requirements as for eye protection are not negotiable, HOWEVER, uniforms and radios are not required from the get-go.  I will say this, after my first game in street clothes I realized immediately why BDUs are listed as equipment in the charter.  Not only are you very visible without camouflage colors, it also hurts a lot more when you get struck by BBs.  I would highly recommend getting some kind of camouflage BDU if you are thinking about getting into airsoft play.

Radios are in no way required but are especially useful if you are new to our fields.  You will probably think about buying radios without any prompting once you see the benefit of them on the field.

When you mention "payment" I am not sure what you are referring to.  There is currently NO cost to play with the Humboldt Airsoft League and NO dues are collected for membership.  You are only responsible for your own gear and ammunition.  Biodegradable BBs are required, but are sold on the field in case someone has a need.

If you will be coming to a game for the first time just to try it out, and do not have eye safety, let us know ahead of time.  Myself and some other members usually have extra masks that can be lent to you for the day.  Also, if you do not have an airsoft gun, Rootbeer has a rental service where he can rent you one of his airsoft guns for the day.  Read his thread here for more details:  http://www.humboldtairsoft.com/forums/index.php?topic=1088.0

I hope I was able to address some of your concerns, but if you have any other particular concerns, please post a reply.  Myself or another member will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

say i think i remember you!  i met you in my archery class right?

i had brought up your concerns with the Humboldt airsoft league council and the charter has been updated although i am not sure if your concerns were entirely written out

after discussing  your issues with them, we found they were all misunderstandings they meant it this way and you read it this way kind of thing, and me being in the middle of the two i saw what you both meant and how both parties interpreted the charter the way they did

i do not recall if all of the issues were addressed it was so long ago, but i assure you now as i did then that you would fit in just fine!

You may have misunderstood Rootbeercouch... the charter was updated in 2009 by the HAL council and every 2 years before that.

The HAL Charter is our foundation. It is representative of the group's desire to ensure safety, honor and legal protection for the league. We do have statements that cover bases that we have yet to implement, including  dues. As Joe posted, we currently do not require any sort of membership payment. In the future we may need to pay to use certain fields so we added that future option to the charter. If we don't pay then you don't pay. The HAL Council and myself are the main funding sources and have been since 2003. One example for dues would be in the future if we need to pay for insurance to allow us to have access to an indoor CQB facility. We would then be in a position to ask for the load to be shared.

Yeah, im the archery guy, sorry for gettin to this so late, still not sure how long ill be up here. and you guys did address my concerns with dues and gear. ive played alot before, so the whole pain from the bbs isnt an issue, but i will probably look into getting some bdu's eventually, same with radios.  i do have my own gear, as well as some for my friends who would be joining, just need some new parts (wiring).  And yeah, eye protection is always a must. we had the same rules where i used to play. ive got my own and intend to make sure my friends do as well. they havent played before and are still on the fence about it. i dont use a full mask, just safety glasses. like i said, im used to the whole gettin shot in the head thing, but are just safety glasses acceptable to you guys?

Yes safety glasses are legal and are the minimum required for play. We always recommend more coverage but it is YOUR face.

To answer Priest's question I would have to see what the end cost was and there would be a reasonable "sharing the cost" fee most likely an annual thing and price would be directly tied to costs incurred and group size. We are a non-profit group.
