LiPo chargers will sense the charge in the battery and will stop it at capacity. Usually there is a second connector to connect directly to the LiPo "control chip." You can connect this second, non charging, connector to the charger and it will stop itself. DO NOT USE A NON LIPO CHARGER WITH A LIPO BATTERY!!!!!!!! YOU WILL FIND OUT THE HARD WAY THAT THEY WILL EXPLODE!!! This will make you a sad panda! Lights out

Rather than define the term I will show you a video. You will not be laughing like the people in the video if this happens in your house!
Lights out

Yes, it has happened to people and yes, they have started fires.
Part of the reason LiPo's are so volatile is they have a ready oxidizing agent in their chemical make-up. This makes them extremely sensitive to over charging, over discharging, punctures, shock (i.e. dropping them), moisture, and a slew of other maladies.
It is advised if you are charging them to do so on a fire-proof surface such as in an unused fireplace, kitchen stove, ceramic sink, etc. and/also have a fire retardant LiPo charging bag.
There are newer Lithium based batteries on the market called LiFe (or A123) batteries which do not have a ready oxidizer in their chemistry and are far less hazardous than their LiPo cousins. However you do also need a LiFe compatible charger and cell ballancer to make these work.

LiFe (or A123 not Lifepo) aren't all that expensive really and an 11.1 1200mAh stick battery is about $20. Some of the more "exotic" A123's can be upwards of $60 from what I've seen, but a reasonable pack for Airsoft is right in the $30-40 range.
