Well it's been a long time coming but it looks like some stores are already taking pre-orders on the Masada PTS ACR (ASGI and eHobby for certain).  a March release date turned into June, July and now August/September seems to be the availability date.

Looks like Magpul PTS put a lot of development into these AEGs with a feature oriented design and a great attention to detail.  The initial release is going to be a standard black ACR (leaning toward the original Masada design) with a fixed stock, special type of version 2 gearbox, and a polymer front grip (though the exact contents of the package have yet to be determined).  Dark Earth and Foliage Green are scheduled to be released at a later time.  There are a series of photos released by Spartan Imports that showcase the extreme quality and attention to every detail of this AEG.  The stand alone gun will cost you a "measly" 450 bucks.  Optional components such as the extend-able fold-able stock, metal/railed front grip, changeable barrels, drop in GBB module (rumored), high caliber lower receiver (rumored), and other upgrades will undoubtedly cost a pretty penny as well.

If you're a fan of the ACR system and have the spending bread to drop on this gun and accessories, this just might be the gun for you.  Other than that, it's just an AEG with an abundance of features that many players may not even use (and overpriced in my opinion).  Regardless, retailers are recommending pre-orders as they believe the AEG will sell out quickly at release.

It's a good looking gun and definitely aimed at the Asian market with that 1 joule rating. A little $20 spring upgrade will fix that right up though. HOwever, I won't be buying one. I'll wait for WE to release theirs.

I do find it interesting that the inside of this Masada is a modified Ver. 2 gearbox which has a short motor mounting to the box itself like a Ver. 3 and the quick spring change ability of a SAW once access is gained to the spring guide. Coupled with a microswitch trigger, this thing looks pretty solid. I hope these features make it into the production model and not just the preproduction sample. It would make cracking open the box just that much easier when not fighting with the main spring to get everything settled and the box closed. I'm impressed so far.

Yeah, I was impressed myself for the most part.  Although it made me question the availability of replacement parts for certain parts of the gun.  Don't get me wrong though... if I had that much income to dispose I would be pre-ordering the heck out of this gun.  However tempting the damn thing may be, I just have other long term goals that I'll have to wait and hope they'll be around later on.  I have never spent more than $250 including shipping to get a stock gun to my door.  Dropping nearly twice as much will have to wait.  At least I have the Masada Sportline in the mean time.
