Now then, this topic has been covered to a greater or lesser degree by two books (World War Z and Zombie Survival Guide).

Generally accepted that a (cross)bow is the ideal weapon for taking down Zeds quietly at range. But I say there is one weapon which has been conveniently overlooked. The Magnum air-rifle.

I submit that a magnum powered air rifle can shoot a .22 caliber 30 grain pellet at 900 fps would be more than sufficient to effectively drop a Zombie AND quiet... well... quiet enough at 78 dB.

I dunno.... just something that randomly came to mind. No never mind that .22 sub sonic ammo still has about 50% more energy because of the heavier slug and slightly higher muzzle velocity. Though really is there much of a difference between 60 ft-lbs and 90 ft-lbs when it comes to punching a hole in a zombie skull?

my preffered zombie stopper would probably be .22, low recoil, easy ammo, and mag capacity.

And you wouldn't blow the body to bits if you miss the head.

well above all I probably wouldnt use a rifle of any kind as a primary, handguns seems more logical imo. and blowing a body to bits sounds fun, but headshot are the only thing that matter. but thte smartest weapon, is rule no.3: cardio.  1 Thumb Up

blowing zombies to bits makes ankle biters, and those are the bastards that get you.....
Clean efficient head shots are the way to go. I would use a rifle for its accuracy at range, the farther the better. My pref, a 7.62x51 NATO semi-auto, like a FAL, or M-14, or m-21....... a silenced .22 would be an ideal back up but it may take more than one, even in the head. also a well built rifle can be a melee weapon in a pinch.

*cough7.62x54isrussiancough*

7.62x51 NATO though, that's a good round. But remember, rifles make noise. Noise attracts Zombies. Too many Zeds make for a miserable night.

If all you need to do is quietly dispatch one or two Zeds, then I still think a good AIr-Gun is the way to go. The ammo is light, so you can carry thousands of rounds as opposed to hundreds, and they are quieter than virtually any other firearm out there without suppression.

Downside is they aren't as fast as even a bolt action rifle, but thye would be similarly paced to the recommended Crossbow.

Silenced .22  pistol for back up. quiet, easy to find ammo, and you can carry tons of it. But if I am using a long rifle it was probably going to be a bad night anyway. I advise against crossbows, ammo is limited by what you can carry, the operation can be tricky, and ones of battle worthiness tend to be heavy.
While obsidian IS sharper than any metal blade, it is also brittle, which is why the weapon is only edged with obsidian.
for smaller blades that get used under less stress obsidian is blade hard to beat, but for melee weapons like swords that must take lots of abuse and such, the stone is too brittle to be of long term use, and when fighting zombies face to face, you need a weapon that can take all the abuse you put out. In WWZ , solders are issued with a combination shovel axe, called a Lobotomizer or LOBO for short.

well, im with you there hern, silenced .22, but the air rifle vs crossbow, albeit both unconventional in my eyes, id take the air rifle. for sheer ammo capacity, and weight. and yeah bishop it is rule 1, my bad.

Has anyone ever tried talking to the Zombies? Maybe they have been misunderstood all this time. Have we tried mating with them so see if a Zombie human hybrid would result in some bad ass "Blade" Zombie superhero? Have we only tried shooting first? Maybe the zombies just need a hug?

Lights out

I refer you to the film "Fido". A picture about trying to domesticate Zombies, through the use of behavior modifying collars.  ".....and you SLEEP with that thing?..."

let's all take a lesson from Gordon Freeman....the ever handy crowbar. Lightweight and durable, plus it can be used for any number of things. From prying open doors, to caving in a zombie head.
